Forest Riding in County Durham

Located in Teesdale within the Durham Dales you will find 'The Stables' on a small working farm. Situated on the edge of an area of outstanding natural beauty, approximately 5 minutes riding distance from Hamsterley Forest we can offer Bed and Breakfast for guests in our large comfortable barn conversion, from £75 per person for a minimum of 2 nights based on 2 people sharing a room.

We can offer accommodation in either a large double room with ensuite wet-room or a single room next door to the family bathroom. Livery can be provided for £15 per horse per night on a DIY basis and includes a clean shavings bed, hay and hardfeed can be provided at an additional cost or guests can bring their own and we will provide storage for this. There is off road parking in a locked yard for horseboxes and vehicles/trailers. Well behaved dogs are welcome at an additional cost, but must be kept on a lead around the farm.

Hamsterley Forest is home to miles of sheltered off road tracks and trails set in 2000 hectacres of beautiful countryside. Laminated maps of the forest will be provided - guided rides are available at an additional cost and picnic lunches can be ordered in advance.There is also a network of bridalpaths around our village and across the adjoining moorland. While on holiday at our farm, guests can enjoy meeting our rare breed pigs, sheep, chickens and ducks as well as the gardens, polytunnel and wildlife pond.

Nearby there are many areas of interest to explore including Durham Castle and Cathedral, Beamish Museum - the living museum of the North, Egglestone Hall Gardens, High Force - England's highest waterfall, Bowes Museum which houses a vast collection of fine and decorative arts and Raby Castle - one of Britain's finest medieval castles.  Barnard Castle is approx. 8 miles away and is a small market town with many individual shops and cafes, there are also many good local pubs and fine restaurants.
