Horse riding in Sherwood Forest

Set close to the archaeological beauty spot of Creswell Crags you will find our riding centre. Your horse will stay here in its own secure paddock, and you will have use of the yard and the tack room for storing all your equipment. There is plenty of parking at the centre so if you come by trailer you can unhitch and leave it here for the duration of your stay. The yard itself, including the stables, date back to 1610. From here you can hack directly into Sherwood Forest, with rides ranging from half hour hacks to three hour forest treks all with limited to no road work. We can also provide excellent tuition for you and your horse with a highly qualified instructor in the all weather surface outdoor sand school. You have a choice of top class accommodation perfect for couples, friends and families with an award-winning pub and restaurant close by.

Day One

Arrive today and settle into your 4* Spa Hotel set within wooded grounds.

Once you have settled your horse at the riding centre and if time allows you may like to explore the local private bridleway which take you on an hour long loop around the sand quarry.

Day Two

Today the choice is yours as to how you spend your second day. You could arrange a picnic hack? Sharon, your host at the stables will provide you with a packed lunch and then away you go. Crossing only one quiet road you will hack along sandy bridleways and pass through the Creswell Crags, making your way through the limestone gorge honeycombed with caves and smaller fissures. Continue on further to explore the endless woodland routes that the famous Sherwood Forest has to offer. Here you will find endless canter paths, not a car in sight.

This evening why not make you way to the nearby award-winning pub; they pride themselves on using local suppliers and always producing freshly cooked meals. They have even won an award for the best burger in England!

Day Three

Today is your final day and by now you should have a good idea of the area and the local rides. You might want to arrange a lesson before you go home with one of the qualified on site instructors in the all weather outdoor sand school. You can choose whether you would prefer this to be a flat or jump lesson.

*NB* stabling available February - November. Grazing available November - February. Hotel is not adjacent to stables, approx. 20 mins by car.
